The motion

That the Parliament expresses support for, and stands in solidarity with, the 480 employees of the McVitie's Factory in Tollcross, Glasgow, who face unemployment should the plans of Pladis Global to shut the factory happen; recognises the consistent hard work and resilience of the workforce in doing everything that they can to support the work of the factory and avoid closure, including by agreeing to changes in employment conditions and turning up throughout the COVID-19 pandemic as key workers; extends solidarity to GMB Scotland and Unite the Union for what it sees as their vital work to protect these jobs; believes that job insecurity is having a severe impact on the mental health and wellbeing of the employees and their families and that the factory’s closure would make this worse; recognises the negative consequences that this potential mass job-loss would accrue, not only for the employees but on the wider community in the east end of Glasgow and beyond; pays tribute to Andrew (Andy) Millar, the employee who sadly took his own life recently, and sends its condolences to Andy's family, friends and colleagues.
