Former Lewis School Buildings to be Redeveloped to Benefit the Community
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes the news that two former school buildings on the Isle of Lewis are to be redeveloped into community hubs to serve residents and visitors in their respective communities; understands that the old Carloway and Knock primary school buildings will both see respective investments of £1 million to transform them into community spaces, which will include new meeting spaces, a community shop and commercial kitchen, among other facilities; recognises that both buildings will have low-carbon features as part of their design; applauds Highlands and Islands Enterprise for investing £200,000 in each project, and recognises the importance of community spaces in bringing people together and enhancing community wellbeing.
