The motion

That the Parliament recognises June 2021 as Pride Month; acknowledges its continuing importance in eradicating discrimination against, and achieving equality for, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning (LGBTQ+) people; understands that Pride Month is celebrated internationally annually in June to honour the 1969 Stonewall riots, and aims to achieve equal justice and equal opportunity for LGBTQ+ people worldwide; considers that the COVID-19 restrictions resulting from the current pandemic have significantly altered traditional celebration plans, but that there is a large programme of events both virtual and, where possible, in person, following social distancing guidance, which can be found through the various Pride committees across Scotland; supports LGBTQ+ people in celebrating Pride Month in a safe manner, and welcomes Scotland’s openness towards diversity within communities.
