Inverclyde Boiler Company on Tree Planting Mission

Lodged by Stuart McMillan (Scottish National Party) Standard Motion 16 supporters

The motion

That the Parliament commends the Inverclyde Boiler Company for pledging to plant a tree for every boiler fitted; understands that Shayne Stride, who runs the company, will provide funding for the trees, which will be planted by volunteers; notes that 50 dwarf apple trees will be planted in Inverclyde to help kick start the project, with 25 at Coves Community Nature Reserve, and 25 at the walled garden in Gourock Park; appreciates that every customer who has a boiler fitted in the Inverclyde Boiler Company’s peak season will receive a certificate that shows where their tree will be planted; believes that Shayne’s gesture will help to offset the carbon emissions created by the gas boilers his company installs, as trees absorb carbon dioxide as they grow, and hopes that the project will encourage other businesses in Inverclyde to consider how they can help Scotland reach its ambitious environmental targets.
