Heartstone Odyssey and North Glasgow Schools
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates the pupils and staff of eight primary schools across north Glasgow, who have been working in partnership with Police Scotland and Heartstone, a non-profit arts, cultural and educational organisation, to learn about the Heartstone Odyssey - a fantasy story aimed at children aged nine to 12, which provides a sustained approach to allow children to explore prejudice, isolation, bigotry, language and forms of racism and discrimination; understands that story circles, which are a key part of the project, are child-led, allowing them to explore a variety of topics in a safe and controlled environment; looks forward to the event being held in the Maryhill Burgh Halls on 17 June 2021, which will be an opportunity for young people to share their work on the Heartstone Odyssey with others; welcomes that the project is playing a positive role to reduce barriers and celebrate Scotland's multicultural society, and understands that the project has provided an opportunity for children to tell their personal stories of isolation and struggles, including those whose families have journeyed to Scotland and made Glasgow their home.
