Curiosity Rover Discovers Maybole-on-Mars
The motion
That the Parliament notes that a location on Mars has been named after Maybole; understands that a strip of rock benches on earth's neighbouring planet has been named after the Ayrshire town, and ancient capital of Carrick; recognises that Maybole was stumbled upon by the Curiosity Rover vehicle on its 2,946th sol, with one sol a day on Mars, in November 2020, as part of a mission searching the planet for landmarks, and naming places after locations on Earth, including many Scottish towns; appreciates that the Curiosity Rover has been traversing the planet since 2011, and has also identified a clay-barring region that shares its name with Glen Torridon of the Highlands, as well as a Martian Glen Etive, and looks forward to further exciting exploration on Mars from the Curiosity Rover.
