Thomas Donohoe Statue, Busby
The motion
That the Parliament notes East Renfrewshire Council’s plans for a statue of Thomas Donohoe in Busby, which is to be unveiled in August 2021; commends the Council Environment Department and Busby Community Council for their support of the project to erect this statue; understands that Donohoe was from Busby and emigrated to Brazil where he organised the first football match in the country, and that this contribution to Brazilian society made by Donohoe led to him being called the “father of Brazilian football”, and believes that the statue, which has been created by the accomplished Scottish sculptor, Kate Robinson, will help to highlight this hugely interesting man's legacy and links between Busby and Brazil.
