Prioritising Dedicated Care for Perinatal loss
The motion
That the Parliament recognises the need for dedicated facilities for perinatal loss, with a standard of care equivalent to that provided to patients undergoing labour and delivery; acknowledges that, while it is estimated that one in four pregnancies end in miscarriage, the true scale is not known; notes that in 2018-19, 4,635 women in Scotland required inpatient treatment for a miscarriage; understands that guidance from the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists recommends that dedicated facilities are made available to address the specific emotional and practical challenges of people in these circumstances; understands that, while there are examples of good quality care, separate facilities and follow up support are not yet always available, and believes that this, alongside greater support for perinatal mental health, should be prioritised in the current parliamentary session.
