Lodged by Liam McArthur (Scottish Liberal Democrats) Standard Motion 1 supporter

The motion

That the Parliament notes the award of a contract to Aqualisbraemar LOC Group to design Europe's first passenger ferry powered by hydrogen in Orkney; understands the design tender has been awarded by Caledonian Maritime Assets Ltd through the HySeas III project; notes that the aim is for the hydrogen ferry to pave the way for the future replacement of the inter-isles fleet in Orkney; understands that the ferry design would have capacity for 120 passengers, 16 cars and two trucks and is set to be tested between Kirkwall and Shapinsay; believes that Orkney is leading the world in decarbonisation through its major marine renewables and hydrogen programmes; congratulates all involved with this project and the wider development of hydrogen in Orkney, and looks forward to seeing the plans become reality in the near future.
