The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the outcome of a community competition, run by Dumfries and Galloway Council, to name its new fleet of refuse collection lorries, which kicked off the local authority's new kerbside waste recycling service; notes that the competition was similar to that of Transport Scotland's, when it named its gritter fleet; congratulates the many young people, both of primary and first year secondary age, from across Dumfries and Galloway, who took part in the competition, which came up with a fun range of fantastic names for the vehicles including: Dustbin Bieber, Trash Gordon and the Binions, Bin Diesel, Ter-Bin-Ator, Greta Binberg and Binny McBinface; understands that the fleet of 24 vehicles, including two electric vehicles, cover over 500,000 miles each year, collecting household waste and recycling from across Dumfries and Galloway households, and welcomes Dumfries and Galloway Council’s aim of improving recycling, reducing waste and ensuring the local authority plays its part in tackling the climate emergency with its new strategy.
