Glasgow Riverside Museum 10th Anniversary
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates Glasgow’s Riverside Museum on the ten year anniversary of the opening of the iconic building, designed by the late Zaha Hadid at Yorkhill Quay; recognises that the museum is home to some 3,000 exhibits relating to transport technologies, including many which tell the story of how Glasgow’s industrial heritage in shipbuilding, automotive and railway engineering influenced the modern world; notes the successful diversification of the museum and adjacent tall ship SV Glenlee as an entertainment venue, which hosts events such as the Riverside Festival; acknowledges the value of the museum as an attraction of international importance for both Glaswegians and tourists, having attracted more than 1.3 million visitors in the year prior to the COVID-19 pandemic; wishes the Riverside Museum staff well in their endeavours, now that the venue has re-opened in line with the easing of restrictions, and looks forward to seeing the museum develop further over the next 10 years, particularly in light of the exciting plan to construct a new bridge connecting the museum across the River Clyde to Govan.
