Inverclyde Community Rallies Round to Transform Hospital Garden

Lodged by Stuart McMillan (Scottish National Party) Standard Motion 22 supporters

The motion

That the Parliament commends the efforts of NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde staff to transform a patch of ground at the Larkfield Unit at Inverclyde Royal Hospital (IRH) into a garden for patients to enjoy; notes that the company that maintains the land, Bellrock, donated £200 for bedding plants and provided the team with the necessary tools to carry out the work; recognises that the occupational therapist, Sandra Forbes, came up with the idea after taking a patient outside for some fresh air and noticed that the area needed some TLC; appreciates that, as word of the project spread, local businesses, charities and members of the public gave their support, with donations of money, practical advice and supplies soon pouring in; acknowledges that staff have now named the area the IRH Rainbow Garden, and that it now features new plants and a bench with a table and companion seat, with the old benches being sanded down and repainted; understands that local school pupils are involved in painting stones to decorate the area; thanks all those involved in helping this project come to life, and believes that this is testament to the fantastic community spirit in Inverclyde.
