Gateway to Galloway and a Brighter Future for Stranraer
The motion
That the Parliament wishes Stranraer Development Trust every success with the opening of Gateway to Galloway, Stranraer’s new tourist information centre and community hub on 2 July 2021; notes that it is located in the town's upgraded historic Harbourmaster’s Clocktower; hopes that it will provide long-term economic and cultural community benefits for the whole of Galloway, believes that it will play an essential part in attracting tourists to the area to help boost the economy of the South Scotland region as it attempts to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic by showcasing the work and products on offer from artists and businesses in the region; acknowledges the vision and commitment of the Development Trust, which is a non-profit organisation behind the award-winning Stranraer Oyster Festival, in its attempts to put the whole region firmly on the map, and believes that Gateway to Galloway will play a significant role in the proposed redevelopment of the seafront and the town centre of Stranraer.
