Workplaces and Climate Change Adaptation
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes an initiative between UNISON Scotland, the STUC and Sniffer to create resources for trade unions on climate change adaptation in the workplace; understands that a wide survey of trade union members in Scotland will help inform the publication of a handbook and toolkit for trade unions, ahead of the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) in Glasgow between 31 October and 12 November 2021; welcomes the opportunity for workers to discuss climate change, weather-related risks and the impact on their jobs and workplace health and safety; recognises that the full warming effect of historic emissions, particularly those released between 1980 and 2020, is not yet being fully felt and that society, the economy, workplaces and environment are not designed to operate in these new conditions, and agrees that people will have to adapt to become more resilient to a warmer planet with more frequent and severe weather extremes, and that climate change adaptation is as urgent and timely as the need to decarbonise.
