Saheliya at St Rollox

That the Parliament commends the work of Saheliya, which is based at St Rollox in Springburn, in supporting hundreds of black and minority ethnic women across north Glasgow and beyond each year, including supporting the resilience, health and wellbeing of women, supporting women into employment and offering high-quality childcare; thanks Saheliya for its efforts during the last year, which have included supporting 1,300 women in Glasgow, from 31 different countries and speaking nine languages; understands that Saheliya moved into its current premises in December 2014 with a 10-year lease from Tesco, which it has tried to extend to allow it to invest in the building; is concerned regarding reports that, despite Saheliya having been encouraged to buy the building by Tesco instead, the supermarket requested a purchase price, it understands, approximately £100,000 above the initial valuation, which reportedly increased by a further £45,000 when Saheliya agreed to meet the increased valuation; further understands that Saheliya was subsequently informed that the building was no longer for sale; is disappointed that, despite Saheliya reportedly reaching out to the chief executive of Tesco, its board and its community relations lead, it understands that no reply has been received to date; believes that Tesco must meet with Saheliya at the earliest opportunity to discuss and resolve this matter to allow a sale to proceed at a reasonable valuation, and further believes that, in reaching such an agreement, Tesco should place its corporate and social responsibilities at the heart of any negotiation process, as opposed to maximising profit on any sale.
