UNICEF Silver for Stevenston Pupils
The motion
That the Parliament congratulate pupils from Glencairn Primary School, Stevenston, for gaining a Silver Award for Rights Respecting Schools, from UNICEF UK; understands that the pupils received the award for their work on understanding and learning the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and bringing the ethos into the life of the school; further understands that 12 pupils, made up of one representative from each class, formed a steering group ahead of the UNICEF accreditation visit on the 24 May 2021; notes that the award is part of a national scheme for respecting human rights in schools; acknowledges a large part of the award is teaching children about their rights and encouraging them to use their voice to speak out and ensure that they have access to those rights, and congratulates the teachers and pupils involved for their inspirational achievement.
