Action Mesothelioma Day 2021

The motion

That the Parliament recognises that 2 July 2021 is Action Mesothelioma Day; notes that Action Mesothelioma Day aims to raise awareness of this cancer, which is caused by breathing in asbestos dust, whilst also remembering the people who have died, and supporting people and their families; understands that mesothelioma can take a long time to develop and that those who have it can show first symptoms up to 40 years after being exposed to asbestos; further notes that over 2,600 people in the UK are diagnosed with mesothelioma each year, including over 200 in Scotland, which is the highest number in Europe, and welcomes the support, campaigning and awareness provided by charities and organisations, such as Asthma UK, British Lung Foundation, Action on Asbestos and Action Meso.
