Replacement of the Green Bridge in Balerno
The motion
That the Parliament applauds the announcement that the City of Edinburgh Council is allocating £66,000 for the replacement of the Green Bridge in Balerno; notes that the decision was taken on 25 June 2021 by the council’s Housing, Homelessness and Fair Work Committee; further notes that the funding came from a Scottish Government allocation to the City of Edinburgh Council of £1,998,000 from the national Place Based Investment Programme for 2021-22 to “accelerate our ambitions for place, 20-minute neighbourhoods, town centre action, community led regeneration and community wealth building”; understands that the “Green Bridge”, which was closed in 2016 due to its poor condition, is a footbridge in the village of Balerno that spans the Bavelaw Burn, linking Balerno proper with footpaths on the eastern bank of the burn; commends Balerno Community Council for its efforts to have the bridge replaced, and believes that the replacement bridge will be a very welcome improvement for the local community and those visiting Balerno.
