UN General Assembly Demands an End to US Embargo on Cuba
The motion
That the Parliament notes that, for the 29th year in a row, the General Assembly of the UN has voted in favour of a resolution to demand the end of the US economic blockade on Cuba; believes that the motion had the overwhelming support of 184 countries, with only two voting against; considers that the blockade is a flagrant violation of the UN Charter and international law; further considers this to be an act of economic war against a small country that, in the last year alone, has led to damages of $9.1 billion to the Cuban economy; believes that the blockade has caused six decades of hardship for the Cuban people and has prevented critical medicine and supplies from reaching that country during the COVID-19 pandemic and is hampering the fight against the virus in the region, and calls on the US to lift what it sees as the illegal embargo with immediate effect.
