Turnbull High School Pupils Embrace Social Enterprise
The motion
That the Parliament commends two teams of S3 geography pupils from Turnbull High School in Bishopbriggs on being the only finalists from Scotland at the recent Micro Tyco Innovate Awards, which aim to underpin the UN Sustainable Development Goals; acknowledges that the school's staff wholeheartedly helped the pupils engage with the WildHearts resources, leading to the discovery and development of their entrepreneurial skills, with a focus on creating social impact; recognises the achievements of the pupils, who rose enthusiastically to the challenge of using their skills to address issues and create solutions in communities for their area and globally; understands that their creativity, innovation and care for others led to the launch of a project to divert waste from school canteen kitchens to help provide flavoursome, nutritious soup for projects across Greater Glasgow, and the development of fundraising ideas to help buy educational equipment for people in need; is grateful for the involvement of the staff and families in supporting the pupils in exploring how innovation in business can be a force for good, and thanks all who help facilitate discussion and training to help social enterprises offer viable business models that deliver wider impact.
