The motion

That the Parliament recognises the importance of place, community and heritage to towns, cities and communities across Scotland; believes that, because of the restrictions imposed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, many more people have explored their local environs and discovered more about the places and people who have shaped their community; congratulates the people of West Lothian, which is in the Linlithgow constituency, who have delivered important new walks, trails and projects to share the heritage of the area's communities; commends the work of Linlithgow Civic Trust on its efforts to highlight and make environmental improvements to the Carmelite Friary at Rosemount Park in Linlithgow, Bathgate Community Council, for producing the Bathgate Heritage Walks Guide, which includes details about many walks explaining the names and the history of the town, and the new West Lothian Shale Trail, which includes an explanatory app that teaches people about the natural environment and industrial heritage of the county, and encourages more such projects to help provide a greater sense of understanding and pride in the historic environment and to help people gain more knowledge about the places in which they live, work and exercise.
