Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire Host Final Stage of 2021 Tour of Britain

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire on being the hosts of the final stage of 2021’s Tour of Britain, the UK’s biggest professional cycling race, on 12 September 2021; notes that the 173km stage starts in Stonehaven, enters the Cairngorms by climbing the famous Cairn O’ Mount mountain pass, progresses through Ballater and heads into the city finishing on Aberdeen’s beach esplanade, where the overall 2021 Tour winner will be crowned; further notes that Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire will host the Grand Départ, the first stage, of the 2022 Tour; understands that the race will attract top riders and teams, allowing local spectators the chance to see some of the best athletes in the world; believes that this will help attract visitors to Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire, which will boost the local economy; hopes that this will encourage active sporting participation in the North East and beyond, and wishes the organisers all the best for the event.
