Funding the Work of Govanhill Law Centre
The motion
That the Parliament recognises what it sees as the crucial services provided by Govanhill Law Centre, which was founded in 2008; notes what it considers the wide-ranging support that the centre offers to clients with regards to benefits, housing, immigration and employment; acknowledges what it sees as the importance of the service, now more than ever, due to the impacts of both the COVID-19 pandemic and Brexit on vulnerable people and minorities; condemns the reported decision by the Scottish Government to reject an application from the law centre for a £75,000 grant, which it understands now threatens the survival of the service; opposes any such funding decisions for similar law centres and Citizens Advice bureaux across Glasgow, and calls on the Scottish Government to reconsider its reported decision regarding funding for Govanhill Law Centre with a view to maintaining what it believes has become an invaluable support to the community of Govanhill.
