Mining Communities and Boris Johnson's Visit to Scotland

The motion

That the Parliament notes what it considers the objectionable comments by Boris Johnson on his recent visit to Scotland, applauding his predecessor Margaret Thatcher’s closure of mines as the precursor to a Green Agenda when, it believes, this was done with the intention of bringing down the unions, and that mounted police even charged into miners trying to defend their jobs and communities; considers that such comments display contempt, and that they follow the refusal by the current Conservative UK administration to accept the unanimous findings of the UK Parliament’s Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Select Committee's inquiry into the Mineworkers' Pension Scheme, which recommended amending the 50/50 surplus sharing arrangements in the miners’ favour, and immediately giving the £1.2 billion currently held in the Investment Reserve to former miners, and therefore recommends that, on his next visit, he stops by the National Mining Museum Scotland in Newtongrange to share his views with the people that he meets there.
