Fundraiser in Memory of Mikey Gillespie

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the remarkable efforts of Team "Mikey to Morlich", which, on 14 August 2021, cycled 138 miles in 11 hours from Cumbernauld to Cairngorms, raising awareness for head, neck and mouth cancer; recognises that this was the flagship event in a series of events and challenges in a newly-born "Move 4 Mikey" fundraiser, in memory of Mikey Gillespie, who passed away on 4 August 2019; understands that the team’s target of £8,000 has been exceeded, and that the "Move 4 Mikey" overall total continues to rise; commends the endeavours of Ineos employees Darren and Eve Murray, and Mikey’s wife Suzy, for their call to action to promote awareness of the need for people to check themselves for possible symptoms, and visit their dentist for check-ups; understands that the proceeds will provide much-needed funds for Oracle Cancer Trust, and pioneering research and treatment for one of the fastest-growing groups of cancers; applauds the determination of all of the participants who have been supporting this worthwhile cause, and wishes them well in their future charity efforts.
