John McCulloch Shortlisted for Agricultural Student of the Year

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates John McCulloch on being nominated and shortlisted in the Agricultural Student of the Year category at the British Farming Awards, which take place in the National Conference Centre in Birmingham in October 2021; acknowledges his involvement in farming from an early age, having been taught by his dad, who has been a stockperson for herds of the pedigrees, Charolais, Limousin, Aberdeen Angus and, most recently, Beef Shorthorns; recognises that John, who is from Castle Douglas, began studying agriculture at SRUC (Scotland's Rural College) Oatridge Campus, near Edinburgh, while working also for G Barbour & Co, near Dumfries, as a stockman, having recently completed his HND in Agriculture; praises his involvement as chairman of the local farmers’ club, Stewartry Young Farmers, as well as chairman of the Scottish Association of Young Farmers Club West Region's Agri and Rural Affairs Committee; recognises that he won the National Young Stockperson of the Year Award at the Royal Smithfield Festival in Peterborough in 2015, and had the honour of judging the Beef Shorthorns at the Royal Highland Showcase in Edinburgh this year; wishes John every success in the future, and looks forward to learning of his further achievements.
