Gatehouse of Fleet YMCA Drop-in Centre's 25th Anniversary

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the Gatehouse of Fleet YMCA Drop-in Centre on its 25th anniversary in 2021; notes that it was established by young people in response to being wrongly branded troublemakers; praises their determination in renovating a derelict workshop in Digby Street after raising £189,000 through National Lottery funding to purchase and refurbish it in order to provide state-of-the-art facilities and fund a youth work manager for three years; understands it has continued to flourish by becoming affiliated to YMCA Scotland, and that it organises many trips for young people in the area, including visits to Prague, London, Rome and overnight trips to Galloway Sailing Centre at Loch Ken, YMCA Wiston Lodge and Aviemore; notes that the centre provides outdoor activities as well as music workshops, homework clubs, pool, darts, table tennis and cooking; encourages young people to help the community so that they become aware of local jobs and employment opportunities, and wishes the centre every success in the coming months and years as it strives to help young people and teenagers learn greater life skills.
