Motion · S6M-00992 · 31 Aug 2021
Congratulations to Sharon Graham - New General Secretary of Unite the Union
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates Sharon Graham on being elected as the new General Secretary of Unite the Union; notes that she is the first woman to be elected to this position; understands that she has a strong track record of organising and building power in the workplace as a trade union organiser, campaigner and strategist; further understands that Unite has 1.2 million members across the UK, and that Sharon’s appointment comes at a time when working people urgently need trade unions to fight hard for better pay, jobs and conditions, and wishes Sharon Graham all the best in her new role, including the campaign she is leading against Amazon for union recognition for its workers.
