Doors Open Day Scotland 2021
The motion
That the Parliament supports Doors Open Days Scotland, which takes place every September; recognises that, since it started in Ayr and Glasgow in 1990, it is now celebrated in almost every part of the country; celebrates that around 1,000 buildings are expected to open their doors to over 200,000 visits this year; understands that this successful event enables people to access sites of interest and hidden architectural gems that are often otherwise closed to the public; notes that, across Dumfries and Galloway and the Scottish Borders, venues including the Annan Harbour Trust, Barholm Castle and Gardens, Dryfesdale Lodge Visitor Centre, Hallmuir Ukrainian POW Chapel near Annan, Lochmaben Castle, Jedburgh Mary Queen of Scots House, Hawick Borders Distillery and Tim Stead’s Sculptural House are all taking part, offering unique experiences to those visiting; welcomes the efforts of the local area co-ordinators, without whom the event would not be possible; notes that its aim is to ensure that Scotland’s spaces and stories, new and old, are made accessible to people living and visiting the country, and wishes the organisers, and all participating venues, a very successful 2021 event.
