Orkney Winter Choir and Orkney Camerata Shortlisted for Royal Philharmonic Society Inspiration Award

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the Orkney Winter Choir and Orkney Camerata on being shortlisted for a Royal Philharmonic Society Inspiration Award; notes that the prestigious national award celebrates non-professional musical activities during the past year; understands that the Choir and Camerata have been recognised for their CD of Christmas music, Together for Christmas, which included contributions from 100 Orkney singers and players who recorded their parts remotely from their homes; recognises that the Choir and Camerata's Christmas CD raised £3,000 for the Malawi Music Fund; acknowledges the importance of community groups, like the Choir and Camerata, for promoting the enjoyment of music for all ages, and for their tenacity during the pandemic to find innovative ways of bringing the community together; further notes that six projects have been shortlisted and will be subject to a public vote that closes on 30 September 2021; congratulates the Orkney Winter Choir and Orkney Camerata on this well-deserved recognition, and wishes them all the very best in the public vote and for future projects.
