FASD Awareness Day - 9 September
The motion
That the Parliament recognises International Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) Awareness Day on 9 September, which was first recognised in 1999; notes that the day helps to raise awareness about the range of conditions that can result from alcohol consumption during pregnancy; understands that drinking heavily during pregnancy can risk affecting a child in a number of ways, and may cause learning disabilities, speech and language difficulties, behavioural issues, vision and hearing impairment, and problems with vital organs, among others; commends the excellent work being done by Oshay’s FASD organisation, which is based in Ayr, and which offers advice, guidance and support to parents and carers of children who are affected by FASD, and wishes Oshay’s FASD group success as it aims to raise awareness of this often undiagnosed condition.
