Nursing and Midwifery Vacancies in NHS Grampian
The motion
That the Parliament notes with concern that there are 406 vacant nursing and midwifery posts in NHS Grampian, which is the equivalent of 6.5% of posts; further notes that 4,845 nursing and midwifery posts are vacant across Scotland, which the Royal College of Nursing describes as a “record high”; understands that, in addition to these vacancies, staffing levels have been affected by work-related sick leave through stress and mental illness; highlights analysis by the Royal College of Nursing that the remobilisation of services is “simply unachievable” under the current circumstances, and that “robust workforce planning” is “urgently” needed; acknowledges the Royal College of Nursing’s call for the implementation of the Health and Care (Staffing) (Scotland) Act 2019 by the end of 2021; considers that safe and effective staffing is critically important to the delivery of patient care, and thanks all nursing and midwifery staff for their service and dedication during the COVID-19 pandemic.
