Positive Chapter in the Wigtown Book Festival Story
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes the return of the Wigtown Book Festival; understands that this literary event, in Scotland’s book town, will stage 120 events over 12 days, making it one of the country’s biggest arts festival of the year; recognises that leading novelists Val McDermid, Alexander McCall Smith, and Lions rugby legend Gavin Hastings, will all be taking part, when it takes place between 22 September and 4 October 2021; acknowledges the hard work being undertaken by the many festival organisers including Anne Barclay, Sandra McDowall and artistic director Adrian Turpin, in staging the literary jamboree over a longer period to make sure audiences are COVID-secure; welcomes the involvement of local authors Des Dillon, Alexis Fleming, Karen Campbell, Kathleen Hard and Joanne Mackay, and encourages members of the public to support the festival that will allow them to reconnect with each other, their region and culture.
