Gas Safety Week 2021

The motion

That the Parliament marks Gas Safety Week 2021; notes that the annual initiative, coordinated by Gas Safe Register, runs from 13 to 19 September 2021; understands that the campaign raises awareness of the dangers of poorly-maintained gas appliances, which can cause gas leaks, fires, explosions and carbon monoxide poisoning; further understands that the initiative provides a platform for the gas industry, consumer organisations and individuals to focus all communications about gas safety in one week, and highlight the dangers of putting off safety checks; notes that Gas Safe Register provides a host of support resources including an interactive GasMap tool, which, it understands, allows consumers to find out how many unsafe gas jobs have been carried out in their area, and to sign up for an email reminder when their annual gas safety check is due, as well as providing top safety tips, including to ensure that appliances are checked by Gas Safe registered engineers; commends the efforts of all of the organisations involved, and wishes those involved every success in raising awareness of an issue that could save lives.
