NHS Grampian Reaches 100th Robot-assisted Surgery

Lodged by Jackie Dunbar (Scottish National Party) Standard Motion 17 supporters

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates NHS Grampian on carrying out its 100th robot-assisted surgery, just three months after it was installed; understands that earlier this year, surgeons at Woodend Hospital, in Aberdeen, became the first at a territorial health board in Scotland to undertake a robotic hip replacement; recognises that robot-assisted surgery has and will continue to benefit patients across the north east who require hip and knee replacements; understands that the robot allows for more accurate implant positioning, which minimises muscle damage and, ultimately, allows for quicker recovery times, and understands that currently there are six surgeons who are fully trained in the use of the robot, with training to be undertaken by others in the near future.
