The motion
That the Parliament congratulates the launch of Sleat Hydro Community Benefit Society’s first project, Cumhachd Shlèite; recognises that the development aims to build and operate a 34 kW micro hydro scheme, which it is estimated will generate 148,000 kWh annually that will be sold to the National Grid; applauds these efforts to tackle fuel poverty, of which Gàidhealtachd is said to have one of the worst records in the UK; commends community funding efforts, with £200,000 of the £235,000 needed coming from the Skye and Lochalsh area, and understands that this project is an opportunity to create community wealth with profits being invested back into the local area.
