The motion

That the Parliament commends the competitors and organisers of the AJ Bell Tour of Britain 2021, which is a multi-stage cycling race with eight stages taking place across the UK over a series of days; notes that the race this year took cyclists from Penzance all the way to Aberdeen, crossing England, Wales and Scotland on a scenic but challenging route; congratulates Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire on hosting the eighth and final stage, which, it believes, is the furthest north the race has ever visited; notes that this particular stage covered 173km of terrain, starting at Stonehaven Leisure Centre, and included an ascent of Cairn o’Mount, Corsedardar Hill and Queen’s View, as well as sprints through Finzean, Aboyne and Ballater, with participants crossing the finish line at the Esplanade in Aberdeen; considers that the race served as a fantastic opportunity to showcase Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire to an international broadcast audience of more than 170 countries; congratulates the winner, Wout van Aert, on an excellent race and an exciting finish, and praises all involved for a hugely successful event after the COVID-19 pandemic prevented the race from taking place in 2020.
