Blue Bonnet Trails Bring Rabbie Burns Poem to Life
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes the creation of the Blue Bonnet Trails in Ayr, which have been revived to allow walkers to follow Burns' famous story of Tam O’Shanter's journey, thanks to the hard work of local volunteers; notes that the path has been funded by South Ayrshire Council and Paths for All, in partnership with Opportunities in Retirement, and with support from NatureScot, for the South Ayrshire Paths Initiative; highlights that the route lets visitors retrace the footsteps of Burns’ character and his trusty steed, Meg, on their journey home after market day and a drink at an Ayrshire pub; notes that walking enthusiasts will be able to take the self-led route to explore renowned sights, such as Brig o’ Doon and the Robert Burns Museum, using online and leaflet maps, as well as the Ayrshire Through the Ages app, and believes that the Blue Bonnet Trails will help promote Burns' legacy and the physical, mental and wider benefits of walking.
