Restating Commitment to the Metric System
The motion
That the Parliament notes with concern the reported plans of the UK Government to permit more extensive legal use of non-metric units of measurement in the hospitality and retail sectors; further notes the view that, historically, the use of the imperial system has created confusion and even led to critical scientific errors due to confusion with the metric system; fears that these plans may lead to a regression in standards and unnecessary administrative and trade confusion, and encourages the Scottish Government to explore all options within its power to continue to require the use of metric units of measurement in Scotland, regardless of the outcome of any UK Government regulatory review.
