The motion

That Parliament notes that September 2021 is Blood Cancer Awareness Month, which is an opportunity to raise awareness of a condition that is thought to currently affect approximately 250,000 people in the UK; understands that people's knowledge of blood cancer remains limited, and the speed of diagnosis can be a crucial factor in determining treatment success; recognises the positive contribution of Scotland’s vibrant third-sector, with charities such as Blood Cancer UK playing a decisive role in raising the profile of blood cancer and highlighting important information about diagnosis and treatment; congratulates Stirling Council and the National Wallace Monument, amongst other organisations across Scotland, which joined together on 1 September 2021 to light-up key buildings in red to promote the launch of Blood Cancer Awareness Month; welcomes the hard work by volunteers, such as Alastair Boyle MBE, who continue to increase overall awareness of blood cancer, and hopes that ongoing research will develop more effective treatments of the condition, in no small part thanks to fundraising efforts from charities such as Blood Cancer UK.
