Lodged by Liam McArthur (Scottish Liberal Democrats) Standard Motion 17 supporters

The motion

That the Parliament commends Ian and Anthea Hume who run Humes, an artisan food company in Orkney, on winning a three-star award at the Great Taste Awards 2021; notes that Humes’ smoked organic Orkney salmon was one of only 218 products to receive the top accolade of three stars, among over 14,000 entries this year; acknowledges that, in 2020, Humes was awarded three stars for its smoked mackerel and two stars for its smoked queenies, making this latest award their third such accreditation from the Great Taste Awards; understands that these awards, run by the Guild of Fine Food, are judged by a panel of 500 industry experts and are recognised as one of the world’s largest and most trusted food and drink awards; recognises that Orkney Ice Cream, Deerness Distillery, Kirkjuvagr Gin, Orkney Gin Company and Stockans Oatcakes also scooped success at the Awards; believes that their collective achievements provide further evidence of the reputation Orkney’s food and drink sector has for excellence and quality, and wishes all these businesses the best for further success in the future.
