Saracen Street Nominated for SURF Award
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates Saracen Street in Possilpark on being shortlisted in Scotland’s Most Improved Place category at the prestigious 2021 SURF Awards for Best Practice in Community Regeneration, which identify and celebrate best practice, innovation and achievement in interventions that improve Scottish communities; acknowledges the central role of the Remaking Saracen programme, which is led by Possilpark’s Business Improvement District, along with ng homes, and includes various local businesses and community organisations, to help deliver a range of initiatives to improve the area around Saracen Street while drawing on the rich heritage of the area to deliver meaningful and visible change for local people and businesses; understands that this will include refurbishing shop fronts after securing £400,000 from Glasgow City Council, working to reduce and eliminate fly-tipping, various streetscape improvements, including planters and street banners, and promoting a successful "shop local" campaign, and wishes the community of Possilpark every success as it continues to strive to improve the local town centre.
