Unites States Lifts Ban on British Lamb

Lodged by Rachael Hamilton (Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party) Standard Motion 3 supporters

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the UK Government on securing the lifting of the United States' ban on British lamb; recognises the valuable opportunities this will create to farmers across the UK in terms of new international trade; understands that the United States banned the import of British beef and lamb in 1989, as a result of BSE; notes the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board’s estimates, which show that securing access to the United States market for UK sheep meat was worth at least £37 million over five years, and understands the importance of this lift to farmers in places such as the Borders and right across rural Scotland.
