Saltcoats Outdoor Pool

Lodged by Katy Clark (Scottish Labour) Standard Motion 5 supporters

The motion

That the Parliament supports the work of the Saltcoats Bathing Pool Group, which is campaigning for Saltcoats Outdoor Pool to be reopened at its old site; understands that the Saltcoats bathing pond was once the largest tidal pool in Scotland and was demolished in 1983; further understands that only a handful of outdoor pools and lidos still function and remain open to the public in Scotland; notes that the group is looking for a feasibility study to be carried out once funding has been secured, with a view to potentially reopening the site for swimming and other activities; considers that outdoor pools are important community hubs where different generations of people have learned to swim, as well as bringing in vital tourism, and believes that the Scottish Government should work with Swimming Scotland to set out a facilities strategy that includes establishing more publicly-funded outdoor pools across the country.
