Marie Curie COVID-19 Support
The motion
That the Parliament commends the staff and volunteers of Marie Curie for caring for over 9,000 terminally-ill people in the last year; notes that this is the highest number of people cared for by the charity in a single year since it was founded 70 years ago; acknowledges that it experienced a 14% national uplift in demand for its community nursing service, which cares for terminally-ill people at home, largely as a result of the 40% national increase in deaths at home during the COVID-19 pandemic; believes that palliative care demand will continue to increase, with the number of people in need of this expected to increase by 10,000 by 2040; understands the importance of community in times of need, and encourages people to follow and use the hashtag, #PalliativeCare.
