All the Fun of the Fair Returns to Dumfries
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes an initiative that will see the return of the September fair, which is known as the Rood Fair, to Dumfries on 1 October 2021; acknowledges that this will help celebrate a long fairground history that has allowed generations of members of the community to enjoy and witness the colour and excitement attributed to fairgrounds, recognises the hard work of Philip Paris, who is the national president of the Showmen’s Guild of Great Britain, alongside Alex James Colquhoun, who is the chair of the Scottish section of the Showmen’s Guild; praises the work carried out by Dr t s Beall, who has been a major part of the Stove Network’s Atlas Pandemica project, which is investigating the historic connections of the fairgrounds in Dumfries and the integral part they have played in the town’s history, with everything from local folklore and leisure time to industry and infrastructure having been impacted by the shows and the people who run them, and hopes that the community will support this venture and safely enjoy the thrill of the fair once again.
