Celebration of Scotland's Peatlands
The motion
That the Parliament acknowledges that 1 October marks the beginning of the 2021-22 muirburn season; recognises what it believes is the international significance of Scotland’s peatlands, in particular the Flow Country of Caithness and Sutherland, which is a proposed World Heritage Site, and their importance to climate and nature; believes that this is especially significant in the run up to COP26, and welcomes what it sees as the Scottish Government’s commitment to legislate to ban almost all burning on peat soils and its ongoing commitment of more than £250 million for peatland restoration.
