Maryhill Integration Network Artists Nominated for SURF Award
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates the Museum of Things, in Maryhill, on being shortlisted in the Creative Regeneration category of the prestigious 2021 SURF Awards for best practice in community regeneration, which identifies and celebrates best practice, innovation and achievement in interventions that improve Scottish communities; commends all those involved with the Museum of Things art group, which nurtured a creative space led by refugee artists; notes that, from February 2021, the group met regularly online and experimented with different artistic techniques each week, which helped participants to discover their talents, share their skills and celebrate self-expression; acknowledges the efforts of artists Paria Goodarzi and Mousa AlNana, who led the project, which was delivered in partnership with Glasgow Connected Arts Network and funded as part of Inspiring Scotland’s Creative Communities Programme, and congratulates all artists in the community who participated in the Museum of Things and who had their artwork displayed at a special exhibition at Maryhill’s White House, located beside Maryhill Locks, on 20 August 2021.
