The motion

That the Parliament mourns the sad passing of Robert Somerville, but celebrates his life and achievements; notes that Robert, a resident in Motherwell, was a warm, empathetic man and a proud trade unionist and shop steward; further notes his involvement at Rolls Royce in East Kilbride where, alongside colleagues, Robert took a stand against Pinochet’s dictatorship by refusing to repair aeroplane engines used in bombers involved in Chile’s violent military regime in the 1970s; remembers these brave actions and celebrates the honours that Robert and his colleagues subsequently received by the Chilean Government for action that is believed to have saved the lives of countless Chileans; sends condolences to family and friends, and believes that Robert’s legacy will live on to inspire future generations.
