McGill’s Investment in Electric Buses

Lodged by Stuart McMillan (Scottish National Party) Standard Motion 16 supporters

The motion

That the Parliament commends Inverclyde-based McGill’s Buses for investing £32.5 million in 68 all-electric buses for use in Renfrewshire and Glasgow; notes that this investment has been aided by funding from the Scottish Government’s Scottish Ultra-Low Emission Bus Scheme, and reportedly makes McGill’s the largest operator of electric buses in Scotland; recognises that the fleet will be serving the COP26 climate conference when it gets underway in Glasgow in November 2021; understands that McGill’s deployed one of its new electric buses on a route that ran through Inverclyde, on Saturday 2 October, giving local passengers travelling between Largs and Glasgow the opportunity to see these new buses in action; applauds McGill’s for the action it is taking to deliver zero emission journeys, and hopes this will encourage other bus operators to invest in environmentally-friendly bus technology, which will help Scotland reach its climate targets.
